Geolocation Smackdown

I realized something while I was at Great Ideas 2010…

I’m obsessed with geolocation apps. Especially Foursquare. So it’s time for a smackdown.

I have an Android phone so over the next couple of weeks I’m going to be testing out Gowalla & Loopt, then comparing them to Foursquare to see who is my king of geolocation apps (Sorry MyTown, but your iPhone/iPod only platform will just not do). In accordance with this experiment you might also be reading a lot about geolocation on this blog over the next couple of weeks.

Here’s what I’ll be judging on:

  • Native Application – User Interface, Options, Ease-of-use
  • Available locations & is it easy to add locations
  • The service’s website
  • Incentives for participating
  • Number of friends on each service/adding friends
  • Integration with other services
  • GPS Accuracy
  • Potential for Associations
  • The fun factor
  • Anything I’m missing?

So let’s start the smackdown!

P.S. There’s an awesome table comparing Gowalla & Foursquare from Mashable. Worth checking out.
